Sarah Basciano is a music composer and multi-instrumentalist living in Toronto, ON. She holds a Master of Music in Scoring for Film, Television, and Video Games from Berklee College of Music - Valencia. Before that, she attended the University of Toronto, where she received a Bachelor of Music majoring in Composition. Before university, Sarah also graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Music, having attained an ARCT diploma in Piano Performance, accompanied by complete Theory and high levels of Classical Guitar.
Sarah writes music for films, trailers, podcasts, series, advertisements, video games, and other media, in addition to writing concert compositions. She is open to any style, and her compositions frequently blend multiple genres into one. She loves to experiment and try new things. Sarah often uses complex rhythms and lush harmonies to captivate listeners, and she plays a lot with the conversation between instruments (whether the instrumentation consists of a full orchestra, electronics, voices, small ensembles/bands, or other). Other times, she allows textures and sound design (often creating custom samples and sounds to reflect the uniqueness of the media) to dominate the piece, and can create thought-provoking atmospheres, from the beautiful to the haunting. Sarah enjoys working with people, and is very friendly and approachable.
In addition to composing music for media and multiple scoring projects, Sarah has also gained experience through other avenues. She created and released a full alt-pop album on her own, has had numerous concert pieces performed, has conducted and recorded her music in studio sessions, has received commissions for event music, was accepted to and participated in the “EQ: Women in Electronic Music” program through the Canadian Music Centre, completed a co-op placement at RIVER16 Recording Studio, has put on concerts of her own music, arranges music for varying levels of performers, and much more.
Sarah started performing at age 5, and plays the piano, guitar, saxophone, and she sings. Sarah is an accomplished performer and has played with large classical ensembles, jazz big bands, small jazz combos, rock bands, pop groups, choirs, pit bands, and more. She has experience playing music for many different kinds of events. Her extensive performance background in a variety of genres makes her perfectly suited for the varied styles of film and media composition.
In addition to music, Sarah is obsessed with all kinds of games and loves hosting board game nights, she gets very excited by food and loves trying new foods, she watches lots of TV shows and films in all genres, she enjoys crafts and sketching or painting when she finds the time, and she has played many sports - currently mostly pickleball!
